Sounds somewhat contradicting in the article. Once EWU and NAU figured out we couldn't win the man coverage battles on the outside, they simply started throwing immediately on passing downs. Then coaches said we needed to figure out how to get a pass rush? No, the coaches and Colter made it perfectly clear that it is literally impossible to get a pass rush when the QB is in shotgun and throwing the ball within one second. So in my simple brain, our secondary\linebackers absolutely need to make it happen. Tight coverage, physical, bump, contest everything. Same with linebackers when they are in coverage.
Edit: Referring to the Ioane article obviously.

So, my question is: "do the coaches see what is happening?", Follow up: "If they do, why then can't the adjustment be made to do what was mentioned above..contest the route, bump the receiver etc. etc. etc.?"catatac wrote:Colter_Nuanez wrote:Big Sky Breakdown podcast — Montana State on Sacramento State

On a side note: the only coach who you might get an honest answer from is Coach Crams...so Colter should just interview him each week and then feature one of us posters on the board to fill in for the other coaches because we know what is going to be said!

We are playing man coverage. We are bumping, trying to re-route, etc. but the biggest issue that Colter is pointing out and Kane admitted to is that we are simply not making the play when the ball is thrown up for grabs. The QBs are throwing those short routes at times but the most of the big plays that happened against NAU and EWU were throws of 15+. The intermediate to deep passes. Kane stated that he needs to do a better job of schematics when it comes to mixing up coverage so the QB isn't so comfortable. Simply put, until these corners start consistently breaking up passes or picking off passes on deep balls, teams will continue to throw it up. When we start to try and help the back end, that is when our LBs and safeties are struggling against the run. We need to start knocking down passes...plain and simple.catatac wrote:Colter_Nuanez wrote:Big Sky Breakdown podcast — Montana State on Sacramento State

And when there is an actual 5-7 step drop, the defensive line needs to get home.

Hey Colter at what point on the time line is the Sac State coach?
Edit to say I now see that only 11 of the 13 coaches are on the pod cast evidently Sac is one of those two absent.

Re: Skyline Sports — Sacramento State
I interviewed Jody Sears twice this week. I will post the audio of that within my Big Sky Breakdown podcast tomorrow morning. The episode will also feature North Dakota linebacker Will Ratelle, Southern Utah safety Miles Killebrew and Cal Poly quarterback Chris Brown.Joe Bobcat wrote:Hey Colter at what point on the time line is the Sac State coach?

Re: Skyline Sports — Sacramento State
Sorry if I'm being grotesquely obvious, but until MSU proves it can stop it every team it plays will use the same approach as EWU and NAU. The Hornets may not have the same personnel as last year, but they're quite capable. Unless MSU has improved or made changes I'd expect to see the Hornets move the ball well this Saturday.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I guess the question is, can we get that fixed. I don't think that is a forgone conclusion.TomCat88 wrote:Sorry if I'm being grotesquely obvious, but until MSU proves it can stop it every team it plays will use the same approach as EWU and NAU. It actually works either way. Not being a forgone conclusion means that it is not certain either way. But what I meant was that it is not a forgone conclusion that we cannot get it fixed (read: it is not certain that we cannot get it fixed).[cat_bracket] wrote:Its not a foregone that we can get it fixed, or can't get it fixed?DriscollCat wrote:I guess the question is, can we get that fixed. I know one thing. SAC is watching tape of our defense and it's helping their confidence. You know their interest is piqued with the thought of coming here and reviving their offense. No matter how bad our opponent is, they'll be confident on offense.

Agree. I'm guessing Cal Poly also felt pretty good coming in here... and we more or less shut them down save just a handful of blown plays defensively. Hopefully we clamp down on Sac and stifle their attack.[cat_bracket] wrote:I know one thing. SAC is watching tape of our defense and it's helping their confidence.
