Depth Chart

A few surprises in my opinion;

-Braun and Tappan battling for Will most of camp and Fletcher Collins is named the starter? Wonder if this is because of Fletch-C's great camp or more to do with Braun's absence from a practice earlier in the week? Combination of both?

-Khari Garcia and Demonte King battling for Free Safety, King wins the starting spot but Garcia is listed as 3rd behind West Wilson?

Everything else seems pretty much in line with what most of us were thinking. Griebel and Brekke returning kicks, Paige holds off Brown and Krolick at Z but we all know 8 WR will rotate through the positions.

Actually pretty excited about our Linebacking corps with Grant Collins (FR), Mac Bignell (SO), Fletcher Collin's (JR), Braun (JR) Tappan (SO), Young Blood Moeakiola (FR). ALL of them will be back next year with one year in the scheme under their belt.

OL looks good. Next year might be a struggle.

I'm really surprised by Garcia listed as #3. I thought he played well as a Fr last year.

Concerned about depth on o-line.

Biggest like: the number of solid #2s in the rotation on the D. Last year the 2s were pretty much anyone who could struggle into a jersey, especially on D-line and at LB. If EWU & Poly & ISU are going to run 70+ plays per game, that's a ton of reps to spread around. Thats basically a 2nd entire game compare to the really bad offenses like UND that only runs 40 plays per game. Given what Colter and others were saying about position battles, there shouldn't be a huge drop off at DB or LB when the 2s come in, which bodes well for NHHU offenses...

Gilis and Mahoney are our backups on the oline if anyone was to go down. They have been basically playing with the 1s since the spring and fall until Godecke and Eekhoff came back. I think we have great depth. How about Mitch Britt beating out Wade Webster as a true freshman?! Very excited about his future.

All 3 Will LB's could be starting.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Your MSU Bobcats starting offensive line average 6 foot 5 1/2 inches 303 pounds
The Ohio State University starting offensive line average 6 foot 4 1/4 inches 305 pounds
Green Bay Packers starting offensive line average 6 foot 3 3/4 inches 312 pounds

Pretty impressive comparison in my opinion. Let's just say, if were not good this year it's not because we're not big enough!
Without serious injuries we should be dominant. I can't wait to see these guys play!!!

Sullivan is a 2 at WR. He sure skyrocketed from where he was this time last year.

Its interesting to compare the new depth chart with the roster, which is still a holdover from the spring. Monte Folsom went from a 300 lb. DL to a 255 OG. Other notable weeight losses are Justin Paige 175 to 166, Bryce Alley 175 to 165; Khari Garcia 195 to 178; Mac Bignell 205 to 190; Nate Bignell 290 to 273; Wilson Brott 240 to 225. Only big gainer is Zach Hutchins 215 to 240

Safety Khari Garcia, linebacker Blake Braun and CB Tre'Von Strong are suspended for 1st game against Fort Lewis next week #BigSkyFB

Garcia and Braun were battling for starting jobs. First depth chart has them as 3s. That explains it. Violation of team rules #BigSkyFB

Hmmm, I wonder what the hell happened. Even more curious that instead of Tappan starting over Braun it is Collins. Fletcher must be really showing the coaches something.

Is Bignell really at 190? That's safety size!

Roderick isn't even on the depth chart. What a disappointment he's been.

Odd that MSU didn't list three at each WR spot. Roderick would probably be on it and I'm thinking he'll play.

I wouldn't call him a disappointment, he'll make some noise this year, it's still early.

You haven't seen him play yet, at 190 he'll be just fine. This spring he played well, like a veteran. Maybe by the time he is a senior he'll be 210ish

Guess we know now why Garcia and Braun are down on the depth chart. They and Strong suspended for rules violation according to Cat-Griz Insider.

I thought it was interesting to see newly converted DL Monte Folsom as a #2 guard behind J.P.Flynn> Does that speak to his athleticism or the Cats' lack of depth?

My memory tells me the coaches were pretty intent on signing him way back when. Who knows, maybe he's paid his dues and is as good of an athlete as advertised. Hope his brother works out well for the Cats too!
