Not a ton of surprises. However, awesome that Tre'Von Strong is currently set as the backup to Bryson Keeton. A Montana kid that will get plenty of experience this year, good and bad. When these corners play early, it pays huge dividends when they become juniors and seniors in terms of experience. Can the season start already?!

Well this is just hilarious. Thank god Chad Newell and JP Flynn met each other. It was a match made in football heaven.

I noticed that Jessie Clark is listed on the depth chart. Is he in Bozeman? I've never seen anything about whether or not he became eligible, so I just figured he didn't make it.

This is the latest I've heard from a different thread.

Solid stuff Colter  Super pumped for this upcoming season, seems like everything is just coming together this year...

I don't think I've ever seen a Bobcat squad with this much depth.

I remember Sandland saying Herbert had the best hands of anybody he had played with, which is really impressive because he played with NFL players like Phillip Dorsett, Allen Hurns and Jalen Strong (from juco). That's really saying something.

I was reading Rock-Chuck's 100 best big sky players and just couldn't help but see that Brekke is ranked lower than Gustafson for the griz. This isn't the first time he has done this in his rankings, but how can you honestly put Gustafson ahead of Brekke after the year Gunnar had last year? Rachac will tell you until he is blue in the face that he doesn't have a bias but every year he ranks players or writes articles like this. In his article about the depth of our receiving core, he stated while the bobcats won't have any All-Big Sky receivers they will have depth. Then he goes on to state that Henderson and Jones for the griz are primed to be All-Big Sky receivers, with a QB that hasn't even played in the Big Sky? The guy just drives me nuts, from the way he writes his articles, to the way he carries himself around Billings.

I agree in general about Rachac, and that Gustafson shouldn't be that high having never taken a meaningful snap... But to be fair, its hard to keep track of 100 guys head-to-head against each other. He also put Newell ahead of both Brekke and Gustafson, which I thought was a bit too high (I'd have Brekke higher than Newell at this point). And he put Mitch Herbert ahead of Shaq Hill of EWU which is debatable too, even though I think Herbert is gonna have a huge season and shoot up the list this season.

So it seems like he did give the Cats some love in a few cases, even though Brekke is too low.

INCREASE IN AID: Saturday night was one of Ash's favorite moments of the season, when he and his coaching staff rewarded several players with increased scholarship money. Four players – offensive lineman Caleb Gillis (Glenn, MT), linebackers Fletcher Collins (Seattle) and Mac Bignell (Drummond, MT), and receiver Will Krolick (Anchorage, AK) – received aid for the first time. Four other players saw their aid increased to full scholarships – defensive linemen Connor Thomas (Kalispell, MT) and Nate Bignell (Drummond, MT), cornerback Trace Timmer (Great Falls, MT), and punter Trevor Bolton (Great Falls, MT). "That's a very proud moment," Ash said, "a lot of happiness for the players involved."

BUMPS AND BRUISES: Ash indicated there were no major injuries Saturday, and by the team's next practice on Tuesday everyone who has been available should be ready to practice.

ROSTER DECISIONS: Saturday's scrimmage marked the beginning of the lock-down of the final varsity roster spots, specifically in two areas – which true freshmen will play rather than redshirting, and who remains in competition for special teams spots and therefore seats on the bus when the team takes its first road trip on Sept. 19 vs. Eastern Washington. "Right now there's probably two freshmen that are probably going to play. (Running back) Logan Jones, who is a walk-on, and (cornberback) Tre'von Strong. Those two will probably play, two Montana kids, it's pretty exciting. The other guy who's really impressed us is (offensive lineman) Mitch Brott. I think he's got a chance to be a no. two coming out of camp as a true freshman and be a traveler. Johnny D('Agostino) is coming along. He and Jayshawn (Gates), that battle is hot for that no. two slot receiver."
