Montana Recruits 2016

Post by VimSince03 » Mon May 04, 2015 12:48 pm

This page will be used for only Montana 2016 recruits. If you guys have any other info on other kids from Montana, add to the page and I can dig up info. If you guys get a chance to see how these kids play or if other kids stood out during this fall, please comment on this page! And also try to keep it positive!

(Will update at end of high school season and until the recruiting process commences in February. The list is my opinion only.)

The way I see it right now in the early process of 2016 recruiting, it is going to wide open on where these kids go (unlike last year where many of the top prospects had Griz ties). For example, Andrew Grinde has been getting recruited hard by the Cats and Griz but he has received heavy interest from Ivy league schools such as Yale. He has also possibly expressed a desire to try and get into Stanford. Hopefully all of these kids have great senior seasons! I will be paying attention to their stats throughout next fall.

So, who are the biggest in-state gets for 2016? Grinde obviously seems like the most prominent name, with Chapman and Tucker running close behind. I'm not familiar with a lot of the others -- can anyone shed some light on who else might be FCS (or FBS) caliber?

Reading between the lines from some of the assistant coach interviews, it would seem we might have a better shot at some of next year's top MT talent as compared to this year. I certainly hope that's the case, though I'm well aware that some of the walk-on types end up having the biggest impact. Just curious as to who the Cats and Griz might end up battling over in 2016...

Michael Jobman from Huntley Project is on the radar for top recruits in the State. TE DE LB type size and speed.

I have only seen the AA prospects, and I agree 100% with the list.... I would rank them in a little different order, with Tucker below Chapman, and I would also put Gus Herzog DL Helena High at a really close #11 (definitely Frontier....maybe a D 1 project).

Grinde is by far the #1, and unless something happens he should repeat as Gatorade POY. He is the most physically punishing RB I have seen at the AA. If he stays in-state, he's a steal for whoever gets him. IMO

How does he do on a fly sweep?

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

Thanks for the intel, Vim. Every kid is different, but it seems like we've done pretty well establishing inroads at CMR over the recent years. Look forward to seeing how it plays out. Life on the recruiting trail never stops!

The only one missing from this list is Balue Chapman. Nothing against Alec N. but he isn't D1 DE material, he has the size and hands to be a great TE. Personally I would have Baleu in the top 10, with Alec in the top 3 as TE, for the state. I've seen both play, Baleu plays at another level of being aggressive, could be another in-state DE for the Cats. Alec could be a great TE, if he plays football at the next level.

Well I have Balue as my 4th ranked player so I don't know why you said he is missing. And Alex Nehring is currently winning track meets in all three throwing events (threw shot 55.5 ft) and long jumped close to 20 ft. He is a tremendous athlete and completely deserves all the attention he is currently getting from the Griz and Cats. I do agree though that right now he is a better TE than DE prospect.

9.) Alec Nehring (at TE or DE) - Manhattan
10.) Jake Bloom (at LB or DE) - Simms
Well I have Balue as my 4th ranked player so I don't know why you said he is missing. And Alex Nehring is currently winning track meets in all three throwing events (threw shot 55.5 ft) and long jumped close to 20 ft. He is a tremendous athlete and completely deserves all the attention he is currently getting from the Griz and Cats. I do agree though that right now he is a better TE than DE prospect.[/quote]

Alec is a great athlete, but I would bet that he will be a trackster in college. Both of his parents are UM alumni, but Alec has a good head on his shoulders. He is dropping hints that MSU may be his choice.

Jace Lewis is a tough, tough kid. He broke his toe in the first half of the state championship and still played like a beast. He has some griz fans in his family, however, that may be able to be overcome with some good, solid recruiting... I think he could be a good one.

Personally I would have Baleu in the top 10, with Alec in the top 3 as TE, for the state. I've seen both play, Baleu plays at another level of being aggressive, could be another in-state DE for the Cats. Alec could be a great TE, if he plays football at the next level.

Early Top 10 Division 1 talents with position (in my opinion)

1.) Andrew Grinde (at RB) - CMR
2.) Chase Benson (at DL) - Helena High
3.) Karl Tucker II (at WR) - CMR
4.) Balue Chapman (at LB) - Bozeman
5.) Derek Marks (at TE) - Belgrade
6.) Dane Warp (at QB) - Havre
7.) Payton O'Reilly (at LB) - Bozeman
8.) Jace Lewis (at OLB) - Townsend
9.) Alec Nehring (at TE or DE) - Manhattan
10.) Jake Bloom (at LB or DE) - Simms

That is why Twitter is a great thing for speculation on where recruits are leaning. For example, Jace is following nearly every Griz coach on twitter, yet Cramsey got to him first on there (building the relationship early). I also noticed that Alec follows some Griz coaches as well but again Cramsey is right there also. You gotta think Cramsey can sell a kid on being a tight end for the Cats...instead of an inside receiver. Then you look at a recruit like Andrew Grinde and everyone and their cat is following him.

Yeah I read the list too fast......opps. I should have said, Alex is looking at Track, he is kicking ass this year. He is unique that he will have several options, football, track and basketball. I truly think he will go the track route, plus he is only a junior this year. Next year will be interesting to see how he does at all sports.
