A DE rush specialist and two LBs. I have serious reservations about Braun and Christensen because of their injuries. We need speed at LB. Until we get that I'm not even gonna think about the rest.

Re: Recruitment Priority List by Position
Im kind of on the same thinking path as cat bracket I just think it starts more in the middle of our defense. I don't see our defense getting any better with future recruits until we fix our interior defensive line. IMO over the past two years this has been our weakest area. Next year I hope to see Thomas, Sheridan, or anybody else actually get some push up the middle to give our ends and blitzers a chance at actually getting a sack.
As far as recruits I hope we get a quarterback and some extra interior defensive lineman.

Potentially getting Prevost back would help out either our linebacker or defensive end spots immediately. Lets just pray that he qualifies for the spring because I think he is in Bozeman.Hi-Line Bobcat wrote:Im kind of on the same thinking path as cat bracket I just think it starts more in the middle of our defense. Getting a big defensive tackle recruit has been a struggle the last few years. I saw on Colter's twitter page a few weeks back that he retweeted a fan who made a great statement. The fan said one of our biggest issues has been replacing Zach Minter with not being able to hold on to three guys: Zach Logan, Kris Cooper, and Dallas Hayes. A very telling statement because of our recent struggles on defense and a lack of a push up the middle. Put it this way, Tucker Yates will have every opportunity to be the guy in the middle for years to come.

Re: Recruitment Priority List by Position
I totally agree. We need some big fast DL that can slip by their guys (fast enough to stunt) and push the pressure right into the QB's face. The rest will take care of itself as that will filter the QB to our DE's. The QB's we played against were just way too comfortable sitting in the pocket last year against us. I want to see some HAPPY FEET!Hi-Line Bobcat wrote:Im kind of on the same thinking path as cat bracket I just think it starts more in the middle of our defense. Going from 44 sacks in 2011 to 18 this year is such a telling stat on the current state of affairs of the defensive line. Like I said, not having a legit pass rusher anywhere on the defensive line is new territory for the cats.

Sacks tell a story, but when we saw the games, how often did you see the qb scramble, they just did not feel the rush. Also when the qb did scramble, he'd usually escape and get the first down himself.VimSince03 wrote:Going from 44 sacks in 2011 to 18 this year is such a telling stat on the current state of affairs of the defensive line. Exactly...meaning we didn't have a pass rush. So top priority recruitment is definitely landing a future pass rusher on the defensive line. A game changer.allcat wrote:Sacks tell a story, but when we saw the games, how often did you see the qb scramble, they just did not feel the rush. Re: Recruitment Priority List by Position
My recruitment priority starts at close to the top, DC.
Sorry.
I believe we could recruit a whole FBS defensive team and still be mediocre.

Many posters have been asking for the same thing. I think Peter has done a very good job. His coaching hires have been very good. Even Huse. Huse turned out to be a poor choice but how many of us loved the choice when he made it? The athletic program has been financially responsible which was his most important task when hired. Overall he has done a very good job. Marshall just has not been consistent. He made a comment to one of the QB Club members a few years back that we should enjoy this time now because we won't see this again. He was referring to having players like Minter, Jones, Daly, Schribies all on the same team. While he may be right the goal should be to repeat that list by recruiting to that level. He admitted he didn't think it was possible which is not the right attitude. He also only produced quality defenses when he had those type of players. Good coaches find ways to produce with the players they have and we haven't exactly been short of talent the last 2 years.

Peter Fields gave Huse an extension, even though he had a crappy coaching record, and the fired him a year later, causing us to have to buy out the remainder of his contract. How is that doing a good job?

Good Point!!! If he did it because he is loyal to his coaches then I guess I can see that but yes it didn't make much sense when he did that!bobcat99 wrote:Peter Fields gave Huse an extension, even though he had a crappy coaching record, and the fired him a year later, causing us to have to buy out the remainder of his contract. Not that anyone may care, but I plan on filling in these positions with our recruits when we start to get more commits. Why? Because its the offseason and I'm bored at work!

I'm assuming. Most high profile transfers are on full scholarship like Keeton last year. Unless you don't think he is deserving of a Full for some reason. He was good enough to make Baylor's football team.

I've gotten most of my info based off of what Colter posts in the recruiting page. He has not said anything much about who is on full, half, or a walk on for players outside of Montana. These are all assumptions. Educated guesses.

You also have to realize that when you are recruiting kids outside of the state, sometimes the only way you get them here is if you offer them a full scholarship.
