Triangle Classic scrimmage called off

Post by Colter_Nuanez » Sat Apr 12, 2014 12:23 pm

I just got off the phone with Montana State head coach Rob Ash. Today's Triangle Classic scrimmage in Great Falls has officially been called off. There's a good three inches of snow on the ground here in the Electric City and the Bobcats couldn't get anyone to clear off the field.

Per NCAA rules, MSU get 15 spring practices. The Bobcats will take tomorrow off and have standard meetings on Monday. They will practice on Tuesday and Thursday. Ash said they may make up today's lost session on Friday as there are no classes because of Easter weekend.

WOW!!!Can't remember that happening before. Sure don.t blame Ash for calling it off, we've got enough injuries without scrimmaging on snow! Guess we'd better get out the old snowblowers it's supposed to hit Bozeman tonite. Hope it clears up so I can find my Easter eggs!

At least they were smart enough to cancel it. One less opportunity for any more guys to get hurt.

As someone who had four scrimmages on that field I can tell you it is a pretty rough surface anyway this time of year. So even if they would have gotten it plowed it would have been a sloppy mess, aka injury central. Probably for the best.

Kind of makes it hard to evaluate players and concepts too.

Wow, when it rains (or snows) it pours. Between injuries and weather this has to be one of the least productive spring sessions I've heard of. You can only hope it doesn't have an adverse effect down the road. This team has been snake bit for the past six months. Their perseverance is being tested.

Soooo what happens when it snows in November? Are we just going to call games due to snow?

OK you're not helping.
Seriously you have to wonder if/when this going to end. It could be a lot worse, but this is just goofy.
I'm just hoping they get back to Bozeman safely right now.

The field isn't turf and it was crap before it snowed. Couple injuries which would have been very likely in those conditions and some people around here would have been calling for Ash's head for playing.

Not quite the same context there, bud.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

I'm just thinking some of these kids need the experience in harsh weather, not necessarily the kids wearing the red jerseys all spring, but they need a taste of November...

I think they would have played but you still need to clear the field to start.

Yea, it's amazing that football does not control the weather like it does our lives! 8)

From the sounds of it they've had plenty of that this spring in Bozeman. They almost always do. Just being a football team from Bozeman satisfies that requisite. If anything MSU needs an indoor practice facility. Practicing in poor weather too much is detrimental.

After seeing the photo of the field in the Tribune it's easy to see why they didn't play. Obviously, had it been cleared they would've went. Sucks for all the people that made the trip, the team and the local businesses.

Living in Great Falls I'll admit having a scrimmage would have been a logistical nightmare. That said I still think its fun to jaw the cat faithful a bit :D I was actually thinking of going to see the QB's.

Do you know what a "wink" implies?
