Alright, I'm gonna start a new thread for this. If anyone is getting up there and getting some pics to share with others not lucky enough to be able to see it please post them here.

I got up there this morning on my way to work and snapped a few with my phone camera.

Thanks kmax! I will try to get over to the stadium sometime this afternoon to get some later in the day pics. I'm cool enough that I brought my camera to work with me.

Yeah, it's a phone but it is a 2 Megpixel camera on it so it takes pretty good pics as long as it is light enough and all and you don't need to zoom or anything. My wife has to use our camera all week so my only option is the phone camera unfortunately. I'm sure some others will get some better ones for us though, just wanted to get some first shots up of it getting started for everyone.

If you go to: http://www.montanasnewsstation.com/Glob ... nu227_10_3
The I-cam is pointed at the field. You can see some of the turf starting to come into the camera's field of view. As long as no one moves the camera you can check in from time to time to see how it's going. I'm here at the TV station until noon mountain time so I'll keep it pointed there.

What exactly is the composition of the ground underneath the turf?

Some sand, mostly crushed gravel.

Is Field Turf cushy, or will it feel pretty hard when you're playing on it?

A couple quotes from the Field Turf site regarding this:
FieldTurf is fundamentally different from all others. Stable, firm not spongy, non-abrasive and uniform in traction, FieldTurf is engineered to play and feel like natural grass.

But FieldTurf is much more than just the absence of abrasions. Unlike traditional turf, FieldTurf does not rely on an underlying shock pad for safety, resilience and player comfort. Rather, like its natural grass cousin, FieldTurf's grass fibers are surrounded and stabilized by a special blend of «synthetic earth» - FieldTurf's patented mixture of smooth, rounded silica sand and rubber granules.

How does the lettering and pictures get put on--I assumed they did that before they laid the turf, but I guess not

Not 100% sure, but I believe they cut that in after the fact.

This link showing a FieldTurf install at the US Military Academy shows how they do it. I talked to their crew boss this morning and he said it'd take them about three weeks to complete everything.

You watch that slideshow, and it appears to be a much more involved, detailed project than originally imagined. Pretty neat process.
