Just drove by the field for the first time... And man does it look GREAT! Can't wait for the season to kick off!

Does any one know if they will put turf all the way up to the bleachers. In the slides of the military academy install they went quite a ways past the actual field. It looks like there is asphalt behind the end zones, but still a lot of dirt where the teams stand and then asphalt right along the edge of the bleachers.

Sorry!!! I took some pics this morning, but my damn camera got switched to movie mod so I [u]had /u][u] to go back this afternoon. It's a good thing that the only one who can fire my ass is me, because I'dve been down the road yesterday if I worked for someone. Anyway, these are fresh.....enjoy!!!!













The last one is the logo for the north end zone that they unloaded off a truck with the rest of the logos while I was there. It's a damn nice looking gold.

The stitching will be done by tomorrow probably. The crew boss that does the stitching is leaving for another job after Fri. The rest of the crew will finish up. He said the stitching is the most critical aspect of the job. The logos, etc, they trim the turf to the backing and glue the pre-made logos, etc. in. Once the sand and rubber is on the field they're not going anywhere.

The turf ends at the inside edge of the curbing all the way around. A rubber mat (similar to what is on the track field, but it drains water) will go from the edge of the turf and cover the curb and asphalt. I couldn't stick around any longer, but they were trimming the sides and getting ready to sew the sideline pieces when I left. Their crew boss told me this morning that they'd have the sideline pieces done today.

Unfortunately I'm at a conference right now, but there is a good chance I will get up to Wrigley for a game this weekend, or early next week (I can't remember the schedule right now). They play game three of a four game series vs. Milwaukee tonight in Milwaukee.

We are Cubs Fans and Cats Fans....let the wisecracks begin.

I think the sand and rubber is like the last thing they do after they get the logo work done the hash marks, etc. They have a special machine that spreads the sand and rubber and then they use a street sweeper to even it and fluff the turf. That equipment isn't here yet but is on it's way from the install they just finished at Boise St. before coming here. The turf on the backing is about 2 1/2" long- after the infill there is only about 5/8" of turf showing. If anyone makes it up to the stadium if you go over by the doors to the Cats locker room in the north end zone they've got the sample box with the sand and rubber pellets in it so you can see what the final field will feel like.

I forgot to mention this-I watched some of the install yesterday and was really impressed with their precision. They string line the yard lines and stretch, adjust ,etc. with every new 5 yard panel. Anyway, I was there late this morning when they reached the south goal line and endzone and was standing on the sideline when they stringlined the south goal line- it was within a quarter of an inch. Their crew boss told me their tolerance is 2", but their goal is to be within 1/2" from goal line to goal line- I was damn impressed!!

Google Earth this Baby down the road and call BS on the length and I'll go to battle (and in my profession I do know a bit about measuring).
