MT High School Football Rankings - Week 6

Post by VimSince03 » Mon Sep 26, 2016 10:52 am

Class AA

1. Billings Senior (5-0)
2. Kalispell Glacier (5-0)
3. Bozeman (4-1)
4. Billings West (4-1)
5. Missoula Big Sky (3-2)
6. Missoula Sentinel (3-2)
7. Helena High (3-2)
8. Great Falls High (1-4)
9. Helena Capital (1-4)
10. Kalispell Flathead (1-4)

No change in the rankings this week. As expected, Senior got a fight from Helena Capital but Senior's playmakers were too much in the end as the Broncs won 35-7. Tied 7-7 with 1:43 to go in the first half, Senior got the ball and drove 63 yards in 67 seconds to take a 14-7 halftime lead off a Nate Dick touchdown pass to Jake Orvis. Nate Dick took over in the second half, highlighted by a 87 yard touchdown run in which he broke eleven tackles (http://www.montanasports.com/2016/09/24 ... hdown-run/). Dick finished with 310 yards (183 rushing, 127 passing) and 4 touchdowns. Senior outgained Capital 422-192 on offense. Senior welcomes Great Falls this Friday while Capital travels to CMR. Glacier got a forfeit win from Hellgate. They play at Missoula Sentinel this Friday. Bozeman had their hands full with Flathead last Friday being up only 14-7 at halftime but their defense shutout the Braves the rest of the way en route to a 24-7 win. Callahan O'Reilly finished with 316 yards (90 rushing, 226 passing) and two touchdowns. Bridger Johnson had 241 yards of offense for Flathead but it wasn't enough to hang with the Hawks. Bozeman welcomes Big Sky this Friday while Flathead gets a forfeit win over Hellgate. In the Week 4 Game of the Week, West and Big Sky put together a great game, highlighted by a failed two-point conversion attempt in overtime by Big Sky to give West the 35-34 win. The game was back and forth all night with Big Sky pounding the rock with QB Levi Janacaro and West QB Bryson Deming doing a bit of everything, including a 53 yard keeper to tie the score at 28 before the end of regulation. In overtime, West scored first to go up 35-28 but Big Sky scored right away on their possession and Big Sky coach Matt Johnson elected to go for two, believing in his ground game. Janacaro pounded the middle all night so Big Sky faked an inside run and Janacro rolled out on a sweep but was stopped on the one by a swarm of Bears to secure the win. West will welcome Butte this Thursday while Big Sky travels to Bozeman. Sentinel played yet another sloppy game but did enough to hold off Billings Skyview, 25-20. Down 20-13 entering the 4th quarter, Sentinel QB Mitch Roberts tossed to touchdowns to Caden Messer to secure the win for the Spartans. Sentinel will welcome Glacier this Friday while Skyview travels to Helena High. Helena had a hard fought 22-6 victory over Great Falls High 22-6 last Friday. Helena used a consistent ground game and defense to jump out to a 22-0 lead entering the 4th quarter. The Bison couldn't mount a comeback as the Bengals improved to 3-2. Bengal RB Ryan Arntson gained 124 yards on 26 tough carries with one touchdown. The defense also got a safety for Helena. Helena will welcome Skyview this weekend while Great Falls High travels to Billings to take on Senior.

AA Player of the Week in Week 5: Billings Senior QB Nate Dick (310 yards (183 rushing, 127 passing, 4 touchdowns))

Game(s) of the Week: Missoula Big Sky at Bozeman (Big opportunity for both teams here)

Class A

1. Dillon (4-0)
2. Billings Central (3-1)
3. Columbia Falls (4-0)
4. Polson (3-1)
5. Sidney (3-1)
6. Havre (3-1)
7. Laurel (3-1)
8. Miles City (2-3)
9. Lewistown (3-1)
10. Belgrade (2-2)

Teams in the conversation: Butte Central (3-2), Hamilton (2-3)

Dillon took care of business on the road in Hamilton, being up 34-0 at half en route to a 55-20 win. QB Troy Andersen rushed for a touchdown and threw another. Dillon travels to Columbia Falls in a battle of the only undefeated teams in Class A this Friday. In Hardin, Billings Central's Brayden Huppert made most of his opportunities scoring three touchdowns on four carries (78 yards) to go along with one reception for 72 yards en route to a 46-20 Billings Central win. Billings Central will welcome Glendive this Friday. Columbia Falls had a bye in Week 5. They welcome Dillon to town in a huge game this Friday. Polson struggled early with Frenchtown but then Tanner Wilson closed the door fast en route to a 33-0 win. The stud QB ran for four touchdowns while throwing for another in the win. He had 313 yards of total offense on the night. Polson will welcome Whitefish to town this Friday. Sidney had perhaps the most impressive win of the night, routing Miles City 41-0. RB Alec Lovegren accounted for four touchdowns on the night (3 rushing, 1 receiving). The more impressive part of the night was the Eagles defense, which stymied the Cowboys attack all night. Sidney will travel to Laurel for another big Eastern A game. Both teams could make a statement with a win. Miles City welcomes Hardin. Havre was pretty beat up after the loss to Sidney but got back on track with a 47-0 win over Browning. Jace Stokes had three rushing touchdowns for the home Blue Ponies in the win. Havre will travel to Livingston for another Central A matchup before they finish the year with Belgrade, Lewistown, and Polson. Since its 29-20 loss to Belgrade, Laurel's offense had been on fire, led by QB Casey Cole who accounted for five touchdowns at Glendive last Friday during a 46-0 shutout. Cole ran for three scores and passed for two in the route. Laurel will have a big test against Sidney this Friday. Lewistown blanked Livingston 35-0 last Friday behind three Isaac Fry touchdowns (1 receiving, 1 rushing, 1 returning). Lewistown will travel to Belgrade this Friday for a big Central A matchup. Belgrade is coming off a bye.

Co-A Players of the Week in Week 5: Polson QB Tanner Wilson (313 yards of offense (180 rushing, 133 passing, 5 touchdowns)); Laurel QB Casey Cole (5 offensive touchdowns)

Game(s) of the Week: Dillon at Columbia Falls (both teams are 4-0 and both want to prove that they are the #1 team in the state); Sidney at Laurel (a lot at stake in this one for the Eastern A conference); Lewistown at Belgrade (a huge game for Central A playoff positioning for both teams as loser of this one will likely have to beat Havre to make the playoffs)

Class B

1. Fairfield (4-0)
2. Missoula Loyola (4-0)
3. Huntley Project (5-0)
4. Whitehall (5-0)
5. Baker (3-1)
6. Shelby (4-0)
7. Colstrip (5-0)
8. Bigfork (5-0)
9. Forsyth (4-1)
10. Eureka (4-1)

Teams in the conversation: Anaconda (1-4), Conrad (2-2), Cut Bank (3-1), Glasgow (2-2), Jefferson (3-2), Malta (2-2), Manhattan (4-1), Ronan (3-2), Shepherd (3-2), Townsend (2-2)

After five weeks, there are still seven undefeated teams in Class B and all make it into the Top 10 this week. Fairfield got an easy win at Rocky Boy, 57-0. They welcome a 3-1 Cut Bank squad to town this Friday in a big 1B clash. Cut Bank is big and ready to take a run at the Eagles. Missoula Loyola continued to roll through their schedule with a 41-6 win over Deer Lodge. Rams QB Kellen Round threw two touchdowns and ran for one. His rams are off to a perfect 4-0 start and have allowed 18 points on the season. They travel to Anaconda this Friday. Huntley Project took down Forsyth 7-0 in a 3B slugfest of unbeatens. This game was a bit surprising because many thought Forsyth weren't on the same level as Huntley despite both coming into the game undefeated. Forsyth held Huntley to 27 points under their average on a night that featured a lot of defense and heart by both squads. Lane Sumner ran in the only touchdown of the night with 5:02 left in the game. Huntley will travel to Colstrip to take on another undefeated conference foe. Forsyth will get a shot at redemption against conference rival Baker. Whitehall had a huge win over 5B rival Jefferson, 33-18. Braden Larsen was fantastic one again, accounting for all five of the Trojan's touchdowns. Jefferson jumped out to a 12-7 2nd quarter lead but Larsen threw for a score and ran another in before halftime to put Whitehall up 21-12 at half. They didn't look back from there. Jefferson QB Josh Eckmann had two first half touchdowns while RB Nate Brunett ran in another in the 4th quarter. As far as 5B is concerned, this was a huge win for Whitehall but there road doesn't get any easier as they travel to Manhattan this Friday. Baker got an easy victory over Lodge Grass, 51-0. The starters only played one half as QB Luke Gonsioroski found WR Cleet Wrzesinksi twice for scores while Angus Lund ran in a score in the half. Baker will welcome conference foe Forsyth this Friday. Shelby and its passing attack made a statement last Saturday with an impressive 34-13 win over Conrad. Shelby QB Aaron White had 292 yards of offense, accounting for three touchdowns on the night. He had a 64 yard run that sealed the win for the undefeated Coyotes. Conrad RB Hunter Mycke still amassed the 100 yard mark with a score but the Cowboy defense couldn't contain White. Shelby will welcome Rocky Boy this Friday. Colstrip had its hands full with Shepherd last Friday, being down 16-0 at half. But a strong second half propelled the Colts to a 32-16 win over the Mustangs. Colstrip got two second half touchdowns from Ben Galloway in the win. Colstrip will welcome HP to town this Friday in a game that Colstrip can prove itself. Bigfork remained undefeated but it was against an average Thompson Falls team that gave the Vikings all they could handle. Thompson Falls RB McKenzie Holt had his way with the Vikings on the ground but it just wasn't enough as Bigfork won 35-20. The game was tied 14 all at the half but Bigfork scored 21 unanswered points after halftime. Viking RB Matt Farrier had tow touchdowns on the night. Bigfork will get a stiff test from 2B's Malta this Friday at home. Eureka jumps back into the Top 10 with a 67-6 win over Libby. A few weeks ago, the Lions 28-18 loss didn't seem very meaningful but now the loss seems a little more legitimate as Shelby is undefeated and that is Eureka's only loss. Eureka had 507 yards of offense in the 7B win. Several players got in on the action for Eureka in the route including three touchdowns from RB Cannan Smith.

B Player of the Week in Week 5: Ronan QB Kasey Mock (6 total touchdowns (4 rushing, 2 passing))

Game(s) of the Week: Cut Bank at Fairfield (big test for Fairfield in 1B action); Huntley Project at Colstrip (both teams are undefeated and a win would be huge in regards to the 3B crown); Forsyth at Baker (Both teams need a win to stay in the hunt for a potential second place finish in 3B); Whitehall at Manhattan (If Whitehall wins this one, they basically have Townsend in the way of their 5B crown)

Class C (8-man)

1. Ennis (5-0)
2. Wibaux (4-0)
3. Fairview (5-0)
4. Belt (5-0)
5. Harlowton (5-0)
6. Charlo (4-1)
7. DGS (4-1)
8. Victor (4-1)
9. Arlee (4-1)
10 (tie). Scobey (4-1)
10 (tie). Great Falls Central (5-0)

Teams in the conversation: Cascade (4-1), Clark Fork (2-3), Flint Creek (2-2), Lone Peak (3-2), Park City (3-2), Twin Bridges (3-2)

Every Top 10 team won last weekend so no change in the rankings. Ennis eclipsed the 60 point mark for the third time this year en route to a 60-28 win over Shields Valley. The Mustangs were up 54-6 at halftime and scored 48 1st quarter points. Once again, RB Jake Knack started off the scoring with four straight touchdown followed by two Tanner Wood touchdown runs. However, Ennis will get its first true test of the season (hopefully) as they travel to Harlowton to take on the 5-0 Engineers. Wibaux had a bye week but will welcome Fairview this Saturday in an Eastern C showdown. Fairview took down Plentywood 56-38 in a game that was closer than most expected. Plentywood was actually leading at halftime 32-28 but Fairview closed the door with 28 4th quarter points. Warrior RB Cody Asbeck had 315 yards rushing on 19 carries with 4 touchdowns on the ground and one through the air. Belt put up 25 points in the 1st quarter en route to a 41-6 win over Centerville last Friday. Belt WR Jess Bodner had three touchdowns receiving and Keagan Stroop added a score threw the air and on defense (int. return). Belt welcomes Hays-Lodgepole to town this Friday. Harlowton rolled to a 62-0 win over the Gardiner Bruins last weekend. Harlowton gets a huge opportunity to stake their claim as the best team in Class C 8-man as they welcome Ennis to town this Friday. Charlo routed Darby 66-12 and it feels like the Vikings have been on a mission since their opening weekend loss to Fairview. Charlo QB Landers Smith accounted for 7 total touchdowns (4 passing, 2 rushing, 1 receiving). The Vikings will welcome Clark Fork this Friday in Western C action. DGS defeated Park City 42-12 last Saturday responding well to a tough loss to Ennis the week prior. The Bearcats will travel to Absarokee this Friday. Victor also responded to a loss with an 82-48 win over Plains. Victor QB Jesse Pearson and RB Jack Powell each rushed for 4 touchdowns in the win. Plains QB Ryan Ovitt and WR Alec Cole hooked up for 5 touchdowns in the loss. Victor will travel to Flint Creek this Friday. Arlee was down 28-18 at halftime before shutting out Clark Fork the rest of the way en route to a 46-28 win. Arlee scored 28 unanswered points to finish the game as a host of Warriors got in on the scoring. Arlee QB Tyler Tanner accounted for three touchdowns but he definitely didn't have to do it all by himself in this game as other players stepped up. Arlee welcomes Seeley-Swan this Friday before finishing their season against Twin Bridges and Charlo. Scobey scored over 70 points for the second straight week beating Culbertson 72-6. Spartan RB Riley Linder and QB C.J. Nelson had four touchdown runs and three touchdown runs, respectively. Scobey travels to Broadus this Friday. Great Falls Central remained undefeated with a 56-0 win over Fort Benton. The Mustangs will welcome Cascade to town this Saturday in a Northern C showdown.

C 8-man Co-Players of the Week in Week 5: Twin Bridges RB/LB Wesley Harshbarger (7 total touchdowns (4 rushing, 2 passing, 1 interception return)); Broadview-Lavina RB Cole Jensen (7 total touchdowns (2 rushing, 4 receiving, 1 int. return)); Fairview RB Cody Asbeck (330 total yards (315 rushing, 15 receiving, 5 total touchdowns); Charlo QB Landers Smith (7 total touchdowns (4 passing, 2 rushing, 1 receiving))

Game(s) of the Week: Ennis at Harlowton (Two undefeated teams will go at it as this one will likely be for the Southern C title); Fairview at Wibaux (Don't really need to say much about the importance of this game as winner has the inside track to the Eastern C title); Cascade at Great Falls Central (The winner of this one will likely have the inside track on second place as Cascade already lost to Belt and I don't see GFC beating Belt...Belt is the best team in that conference)

Class C (6-man)

1. Hot Springs (5-0)
2. Bridger (5-0)
3. Geraldine-Highwood (5-0)
4. White Sulphur Springs (5-0)
5. Jordan (3-1)
6. Richey-Lambert (4-1)
7. Westby-Grenora (4-1)
8. Valley Christian (4-0)
9. West Yellowstone (4-0)
10. Bainville (3-2)

Teams in the conversation: Savage (2-2), Sunburst (2-2), Valier (3-1)

Hot Springs continued to score a lot of points and allow few as they beat St. Regis 71-7. Savage Heat ATH Trevor Paro scored five touchdowns in the 1st half in the win. Hot Springs travels to Noxon this Friday. Bridger got more production from the Zentner cousins as all four (Colter, Colby, Ryan, and Russ) all scored touchdowns for the Scouts. Bridger will get a stiffer test this Friday as they travel to Richey-Lambert. Geraldine-Highwood routed Box Elder 56-14 as GH QB Brady Duvall threw for four touchdowns. The Rivals will travel to Valier this Friday in a big Northern C matchup. White Sulpher Springs shutout Sheridan 52-0 as the Hornets scored 39 1st quarter points. Seven different players scored touchdowns for WSS. They welcome Lincoln to town this Saturday. Jordan beat up on conference rival Savage 58-14. Four different players did most of the scoring for the surging Jordan Mustangs. They welcome Ekalaka this Friday. Richey-Lambert responded to that tough loss to Jordan the week prior with a 54-6 win over Alexander, ND. They welcome the Bridger Scouts to town this Friday. Westby-Grenora's defense showed up in a 34-12 win over Bainville. Bainville is a team that scored 84 points against Jordan this year but the Thunder only allowed two touchdowns. Thunder QB Daulton Holecek threw two touchdowns and ran in another. The Thunder will look to separate themselves in the Eastern C as they take on Savage this Friday. West Yellowstone took down Lincoln 44-18 last Saturday as the Wolverines have jumped out to a sneaky 4-0 start. West Yellowstone RB Colter Ross accounted for 5 touchdowns (4 rushing, 1 receiving) in the win. They travel to Sheridan this Friday. Another undefeated Western C team got another win as Valley Christian beat Noxon 58-18. Eagles RB Colton Becker had 4 total touchdowns on the day (3 rushing, 1 receiving). They travel to St. Regis this Friday. Interesting note: there are currently four undefeated teams in Western C (Hot Springs, West Yellowstone, White Sulphur Springs, and Valley Christian) and they all play each other in the final three weeks.

C 6-man Player of the Week in Week 5: West Yellowstone RB Colter Ross (5 total touchdowns (4 rushing, 1 receiving))

Game of the Week: Geraldine-Highwood at Valier (winner has the inside track on the #1 seed out of the Northern C conference); Bridger at Richey-Lambert (Good test for both teams); Savage at Westby-Grenora (Savage needs this win to keep their playoffs chances alive and WG needs this win for 1st place aspirations in the Eastern C)

Vim, Thanks for taking the time to share the information! I'm following the Class A teams. Although it's early, you're right about a handful of games which will set the stage for the playoffs.

Dillon at Columbia Falls will be very interesting. 4-0 Columbia Falls has out scored it's opponents 209 to 56. That is an impressive average win of 52 to 14. However, it remains to be seen if they are for real since their four opponents have a combined record of only 6 wins to 14 losses. This weekend's game with Dillon will show if C. Falls is a real playoff contender.

Belgrade, Havre & Lewistown are the only contenders in Central A. As you point out Lewistown at Belgrade will largely determine which of those two teams get a playoff slot out of the Central.

In the Eastern A, Sidney at Laurel is a key game for playoff seating. Four teams Billings Central, Sidney, Laurel & Miles City are contending for two playoff slots. A Sidney win sets them up nicely, while a Laurel win keeps the Locos in the thick of it.

I can't figure out how Capital gets the votes to stay in the top ten.

Their schedule for one. And I fully believe they are better than Butte and CMR.

Yep, they've lost to the #1, #2, #3, and #4 ranked teams.

Plus, with Hellgate not playing a varsity schedule this year, that leaves only 13 teams in Class AA, so you don't exactly have to be a powerhouse to crack the top 10.

Size is the problem? I met Denarious several times. Same height. Dick doesn't make bad reads, ever. Anticipates very well. Fearless with good mechanics. One of the most competitive kids I've ever met. If the offense were Cramsey style he might play as a Freshman. Very confident kid.

Hey don't get me wrong...I'd throw him in there at QB. Guess it just depends on the system. You would have to think he would make a really competitive DB as well.

You may be right on Senior. And after the 1st quarter of the Dillon game last night, I thought you would've been correct on Dillon. But then Columbia Falls started to realize they are A very talented team and charged right back. A good night for the Flathead area teams last night. Unbelievable game between Sentinel and Glacier.
