NIL Guidelines - Caitlyn Clark

Post by Cataholic » Sun Feb 11, 2024 1:44 pm

Can someone help me understand NIL? I thought athletes were not allowed to wear the schools logos or uniforms. Watching Caitlyn Clark of Iowa play on national TV today and she is appearing in her Iowa uniform on commercials. Am I missing something?

Players can wear the team uniform in ads if the school has given permission to do it.

I didn’t know that. Why do we see so few schools allow it?

Probably because the player is getting the NIL money and not the team, so schools will be highly protective of their own sponsorship agreements to maintain their own revenue sources.
