Great BSC lineup this Saturday

Post by TomCat88 » Mon Sep 30, 2019 9:51 pm

I like it when the games start in staggered fashion, not to mention a few good matchups. A game starts on the hour, every hour this Saturday with the exception of 4:00. UC Davis at UND starting at noon through EWU at SAC, which I think is the game-of-the-week.

Noon - Davis at UND (Davis could easily drop another one)
1:00 - ISU at UM (ISU might be better than people think)
2:00 - So. Utah at PSU (it's time for SUU to win one)
3:00 - Weber at Idaho (Idaho is all over the map, so who knows what happens here)
5:00 - No. Colo. at NAU (more maps, who really knows?)
6:00 - MSU at Cal Poly (has MSU ever won there?)
7:00 - EWU at SAC (SAC, like ISU, might be better than you think)

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Davis ranking was based on last year results, now it's reality time in the big sky conference and probably dropping their 3rd game in a row!

1960 and 1995 we won in SLO, I think we are 2-5 in SLO

oddly I am unsure because https://cfbinfo.com has our 2003 game being played in Stevenson, MD ???????? but I believe that was in SLO which would make our record 2-5 in SLO

Indeed the 2003 game was in SLO.

We were a 2nd half team in that game too, but not quite good enough to make up for the 1st half.

Serious question...

Why is North Dakota presumed to a great team this year? Two years ago they collapsed hard after winning the BSC. Last year they finished 6-5. It seems to me they might be above the median, but not by much. What is everyone else seeing?

I get that impression too. I think it comes from MSU fans. I think they hear Choate build up every team and they’re running with it. I think he does that to keep his guys focused and partly because of the unpredictability that is FCS football. UND is good, not great. I couldn’t tell you if they’re better than Davis. Davis played NDSU better than UND did, but as we see all the time that doesn’t mean much.
Davis might’ve been the 2018 version of the SUU 2017 team or the 2016 PSU team or...seems to be one every year.

UND is a decent team. We play them at their house this year. They thumped the griz by about 30 points last season. It's definitely a team that could beat anybody else in the Big Sky if they happen to get hot one Saturday.

I completely agree that both Idaho St and Sac St are better than many realize. Every year the Big Sky has a team or two who can beat anyone and surprises. This year I think that is ISU and Sac St. ISU is starting to get votes and some national love and is now in the top 20 for Sagarin ratings.

Yeah, I can buy that. If indeed that's what Choate objective is, then I agree and I would do the same if I was in his shoes. It's possible they hit their upside in 2016 under Schweigert and are regressing towards the mean a bit now.

It could be the same for UC Davis. After last season, I believed they still had a ton of untapped and upside potential. They've got a lot of built in advantages that can help them separate from the pack. Where they are now, I feel like a bad year for them will still be significantly better than a N Col or SUU bad year.

Nope, just watched them play. They are dangerous. Got their QB back who is the highest rated in Big Sky right now. Barely lost to UNI and absolutely dominated PSU. They’ll be a tough out for anyone.

Idaho State’s defense looks good. They defended No. Iowa better than Weber and ISU played them on the road. The ISU vs Utah game was nearly identical to the UM vs Oregon game. PSU put up some good numbers on them last week, however, but a lot of those came after ISU got up 20-0.

There isn’t a game on there that I feel confident in calling.

I sat in that damned stadium in Stevenson for two hours waiting for them to turn on the lights!

I like the staggered start times also. I’d rate the games as follows:
Ewu at Sac
ISU at UM
Davis at UND
MSU at Cal Poly
WSU at Idaho
No. Colo. at NAU
So. Utah at PSU

Great overall weekend of FCS football. Here is Yoda's Saturday schedule:

9a Blow out sprinklers.
11a NDSU v Ill St on ESPN+ (2 potential opponents)
12p UCD v UND on Gamecast (2 future opponents)
1p UM v ISU on Root
2p SUU v PSU on Gamecast (2 future opponents)
3p YSU v UNI on ESPN+ (2 potential opponents)
5p NCU v NAU on Gamecast (future opponent)
6p Cats on Spectrum
7p EWU v SSU on Gamecast (future opponent and potential opponent)

Haven't checked but maybe some of the BSC games will be on Pluto. That would be great.

NDSU is rolling Illinois State 23-3 in the first half. North Dakota takes and early lead over UC Davis, 7-0.

North Dakota up 14-0 over Davis. Davis looks bad. If this is the way their defense plays, we should run for 400 yards against them.

Davis just cut the lead in 1:57. Score TD quickly, with bulk of yards coming via run game
