I wonder how much of our subsidy goes to FB, MBB, WBB, Track...each sport. I have a feeling the lack of attendance at basketball is a big one.
We also need more seating for football to capture more revenue. Sky suites and north EZ. Please. Why wait?

I wonder how much is actually off these books. I would bet the bobcat club and the quarterback club are not in these numbers.

Is the subsidy state money, or are student fees included in that number?

I don't get it. Oregon has $86+M in surplus, but it still has subsidies? Other schools (e.g. Purdue) run a deficit, but have no subsidies. I don't think GAAP accounting applies to NCAA sports...

Re: 2014 NCAA University Revenue Rankings
Oregon doesn't typically have this type of revenue, although it's always a high number. It's exceptionally high for the reported year due to improvements like the $68 million (130 million depending on the source) Hatfield-Dowling complex, and other facility improvements.onceacat wrote:I don't get it. GAAP and governmental accounting are different animals. If you don't work in governmental accounting you won't be able to understand it. It's also called fund accounting, which usually does not tell the whole picture.onceacat wrote:I don't get it. Oregon has $86+M in surplus, but it still has subsidies? Re: 2014 NCAA University Revenue Rankings
Think about it this way. The University owns the facilities, you would expect the users to pay rent to use the facilities. Since the buildings and the athletics are separate entities (or funds) the athletics would pay the buildings some rent. The actual amount of the rent would be set at the school. I we charge a rent of a million dollars, that could make it look as though the athletics are losing money. If however the were to only charge 50,000 dollars, you can see where that would make the program look better when looking at the bottom line. I know nothing about the way they cook the books, but they do cook the books. I just know how government entities magically find money in one fund, when they are supposedly broke.

Re: 2014 NCAA University Revenue Rankings
Big Sky Conference sorted by "actual" progam revenue. It is worth noting that several colleges have real revenue from other sports, including soccer, baseball, and hockey. Another interesting fact, all three California schools are heavily subsidized by students and the university.... it becomes difficult to see how these colleges can continue the large subsidies rolling when higher education in California is having trouble. UC Davis subsidizes their athletics program with >$25 million.

Re: 2014 NCAA University Revenue Rankings
What's the point of this post? UO enrollment is up to record levels due to national exposure, and the goal of a $2 billion dollar academic endowment by the end of the year is on its way to completion. The first $1 billion is by outside donors, and Phil and Penny Knight are matching up to $1 billion. UO will be in the league of any school in the country outside of USC, Harvard, Yale, Princeton (and other Ivy schools) Notre Dame, Duke, Texas and CA schools, along with a few more public universities. Professors whining about money being spent on sports when Phil Knight is donating $1 billion to academics, and he built a new library. Stop the presses!!!Jobu wrote:

I find it funny that a Griz fan like you would complain about money being spent on football over academics, by the way. UM is losing enrollment at historic levels, and MSU is at an all-time high in terms of academic success on and off the football field.

More information for Jobu.
Phil and Penny Knight have given his alma mater more than $300 million, including for the law school, library and 27 endowed professorships as well as for higher-profile athletics-related projects.
Knight has been long-rumored as the future source of a significant endowment gift to the university, rumored to be at least $1 billion.
The Knights have donated more than $1 billion of their fortune over the years to medical centers, athletic facilities, university buildings and other endeavors. Forbes recently ranked Knight as the 23rd-richest person in the United States with a net worth of $21.2 billion.
Knight said he wishes his home state and its educational institutions were more ambitious about trying to compete and push themselves to the next level.
"Somebody once described Oregon as 'that soccer field between Washington and California,' and I hate that," he said. "I was born in this state, I love this state and as Bowerman used to say, 'You've got webs between your toes.'
"I think it bothers me that there isn't sometimes as much of a can-do attitude in this state as is possible. It's making progress and it just (needs) to keep it going."
