OT John Schmaing is ineligible

Post by HelenaCat95 » Fri Aug 22, 2014 2:13 pm

UM just announced that he's out for the year with academic issues.
That is a tough blow for an O-line that really needed him.

Ouch. I was wondering about that, reports about the appendix deal he was having, who knows. Anyways... huge blow for them. If Poole doesn't make it back they'll be breaking in FIVE starting O linemen, I think.

I actually kind of feel bad for Delaney. I have a Griz fan buddy that was tearing him to shreds the other night for them being in this O Line predicament... but I think he's actually done a decent recruiting job there, they just got hit with players leaving, injuries, AND the academic deal at the exact same time.

Oops, quoted myself on accident there.

I agree. Delany is a really good guy. You'd have to search pretty long and hard to get someone to say something negative about him as a person.

It sounds like the griz o-line will look alot like ours did in 2011.

And Trevor Poole's career is over - those were our only two experienced players on the O-line.

Wow... that's official? Feel for the kid. That's a chit ton of work and effort, weight gain, etc... to be forced to quit going into your Senior year. It's gotta be depressing.

So, I know the Hines bros are veterans and have played quite a bit but have they started, and are those the only players with starts?

Poole's back cant support his weight, has disc issues. Is bugged him but flared up bad in spring ball, bugged him all summer, and got worse as fall camp arrived. They tried to give it a few more weeks but it sounds like the official word was that he needs to drop a lot of weight or else the back problems are only going to get worse.

That honestly sucks because he will probably battle that the rest of his life. Do you know how much weight he has to drop? Is it a thing where he can still play ball, or does he need to drop 50 pounds which forces him to quit because he will be to small?
